Modern critical care medicine is marked by a steadily growing amount of available patient data. This causes a new challenge extracting significant information concerning the patient's prognosis or diagnosis. Classic approaches of the decision support are prognostic scoring systems like the APACHE Scoring System [1]. This paper discusses automatic generation of risk classifications. Three mayor problems with respect to the application of data mining processes in the domain of critical care medicine are identified: the evaluation, the explanation and the transformation into a usable form of the data mining results.
